OSMF & PreCancerous Lesions

Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF) is a chronic, potentially malignant disorder of the oral cavity characterized by the progressive fibrosis of the submucosal tissues, which can lead to restricted mouth opening and various oral complications.
The primary cause of OSMF is the habitual use of areca nut or betel quid, often with tobacco. Other factors like spicy foods, nutritional deficiencies, and genetic predisposition may contribute to its development.

OSMF presents with symptoms like burning sensation in the mouth, difficulty in opening the mouth (trismus), and the development of fibrous bands or plaques in the oral mucosa. As the condition progresses, it can lead to speech and eating difficulties.
